i use most of my days now for sleeping i sleep sound through the closing bell though all the stocking and bonding has them weeping makes them important i suppose will something wake me today? will something wake me today? no i'm fading, i'm fading i'm holding on to the bedpost they're wading through faces we're dancing on our toes with our eyes closed at noontime i was dreaming all about my apropos glow when the big sun peeled back my eyes and with a sun-flare finger shake he said it's all your fault there's so much work to be done it's all your fault you're wasting my light you're wasting your life why must you wake me today? why must you wake me today, sun? i'm fading, i'm fading i'm holding on to the bedpost they're wading through faces we're dancing on our toes with our eyes closed

it's a sixteen hour drive back East and we start before day break I take the first shift since I know I'll be awake and the darkness melts away before we hit Mile Marker 1 in front me all I see are the foothills and the sun And it will be your turn to drive once we cross the Great Divide for now you're fast asleep on the passenger side Dark clouds gathering behind I won't pay them any mind We'll keep in front of the storm and and we'll make it home alive every mile thru the mountains brings more beauty than I've known I should share with you but I prefer to see it on my own with Painful on the stereo since I got behind the wheel I sing with Georgia one more time "Do you know how I feel?" And it will be your turn to drive once we cross the Great Divide for now you're fast asleep on the passenger side Dark clouds gathering behind I won't pay them any mind We'll keep moving east and I know we'll be fine We'll keep in front of the storm as we've done since before dawn There will be nothing but clear skies before too long There will be nothing but clear skies before too long There will be nothing but clear skies before too long

I called my brother and told him stories About the sweet things you do for me He said "That girl's no good for you." I always wanted a baby grand A guy who walks curbside and holds my hand But somehow, you'll do The bar was dark and you looked so pretty You bought me drinks all night But I thank my stars you let me get this far No one knows you like I do I will race home, I will race home And I will fill my belly with beer And I will whisper sweet things in your ear I will race home, I will race home I will race right up the stairs And light the fire when I am near We get to sleep in on the weekends And I will hold you when you're tired But I thank my stars you let me get this far No one knows you like I do

Chicago 04:01
Stumbling thru a dust storm Showering in the rain pour It was the first real weekend in summer in this town Sleeping under the moonlight Waking up to a fistfight You were the only love of my life, I suppose Follow me back to Chicago I could sing you "Hallelujah" I could sing your troubles away Tripping under a canopy A crowded night in Tennessee Such confusion with the colors and light Skipping lampposts with my eyes The passing lanes they flicker by Every minute is a mile that divides Follow me back to Chicago I could sing you "Hallelujah" I could sing your troubles away Follow me up to the rooftops and out towards the skyline Please sit with me before it gets late Follow me back to Chicago I could sing you "Hallelujah" I could sing your troubles away Follow me up to the rooftops and out towards the skyline Please sit with me before it's too late Follow me back to Chicago I could sing you "Hallelujah" I could sing your troubles away

It's written on your face and I can read it when I catch your eye If I didn't know you so well I'd never think that it was all a lie Half the tales you tell are things that never could have happened to you But I love the fact you've never been hung up on truth You erase mistakes like no one else could And always leave in those parts where I look good I forgive the times when you co-opt my stories as your own They all become larger than life, but somehow not overblown You erase mistakes like no one else could And always leave in those parts where I look good You have no fear of taking liberties How to uncover your real life story is a mystery It's not that I want you to die before me But if that's the case I want to write your biography

about

Wells-next-the-Sea ups the production ante from their previous releases Guest House and Homes So Airtight for a fuller sound on Passenger Side. Nowhere is this more evident than on the broad shouldered, full band sound of “Chicago,” the centerpiece of this fine, five-song EP. Brennan Mackey’s deeply edgy voice gets fleshed out with some searing lead guitar from Danny Sherrard.

But they haven’t totally abandoned their minimalist core sound previously heard on gems such as “Over the Line” and “Wilten and Want.” Passenger Side opens with Dann Morr's graceful vocals charmingly augmented by Liz Barnett's singing and fiddle playing on "With Our Eyes Closed" (penned by Wells’ founders Morr and Philip Robbins). Mackey and Barnett’s loving duet on “No One Knows You Like I Do” officially qualifies as a ditty with the pluck of a ukulele. Banjo and guitar ably underscore the personal drama of “Keep in Front of the Storm.” “Taking Liberties” closes the affair with its touchingly sweet, smooth groove and Morr’s lead vocal.

Fans of The Head and the Heart, The Weepies, Kings of Convenience, Cotton Jones, et al. take note. With Passenger Side Chicago’s Wells-next-the-Sea moves over squarely behind the wheel of the alt-rock vehicle.
